KARADOPITA-“GREEK NUT CAKE”

Ingredients

  • Melt together: 1 pound of butter and 1 cup of sugar, remove from heat
  • Add the juice of 1 orange
  • Sift together: 1 cup of flour
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch of salt

Instructions

Add sifted ingredients, a little at a time, to the butter and sugar mixture.

Add 4 beaten eggs

Stir in 1 cup of chopped nuts-walnuts or pecans

Bake in an ungreased 9×13 pan at 350* for approx. 30 minutes

Cool cake, cut into diamonds and loosen around edges

Boil to make a syrup: 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar

Spoon over cake making sure the edges are soaked

Serve with whipped cream.
